The Columbine Fairy holds her pink petal shaped skirt, which is edged in pastel colors of yellow and green. The flower fairy is preparing to dance and twirl 'round the fairy ring. Columbine, an inspiration for this fairy, is known for the spurred petals of their flowers. It is a hardy perennial plant found in meadows and woodlands and it prefers partial shade with well-drained soil. The English novelist and illustrator Cicely Mary Barker composed several children's publications relating to imagination along with world of flower fairies. Barker's original book, Flower Fairies of the Spring, was introduced in 1923. The pictures included in her books were the creative idea for the hand-painted fairies.
